At The Grainger College of Engineering, we are building a legacy of excellence and our outstanding faculty make this possible. We are proud to congratulate seven ECE faculty members on their recent promotions.

Arijit Banerjee has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. Banerjee joined ECE as an Assistant Professor in January 2017. His research aims to create new paradigms in electromechanical energy conversion systems, working in the domains of electromechanics, power electronics and control. Banerjee is also affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering.

Subhonmesh Bose has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. His research focuses on power systems, using expertise from optimization, control and game theory to examine integrating renewable and distributed energy into the power grid. Bose joined ECE in January 2016 as an Assistant Professor.

Xu Chen has been promoted to Teaching Associate Professor. An Illinois ECE alumnus, he also has many years of industry experience as a hardware engineer. His fields of interest include stochastic modeling for electromagnetics and circuits, and machine learning for microelectronics circuits and systems design. He is a member of the Center for Advanced Electronics Through Machine Learning (CAEML) IUCRC.

Zuofu Cheng has been promoted to Teaching Associate Professor. He joined in 2014 as a faculty member after receiving his Ph.D. from Illinois ECE. Cheng’s research areas are acoustics and computer architecture, focusing on electronic music synthesis, digital systems and electronic circuits.

Hyungsoo Choi has been promoted to Research Professor. Choi’s research interests encompass electronic and optical materials, thin film and nanoparticle fabrication, precursors for nanoscale materials synthesis and biomaterials.

Andrew Edmund Miller has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. His research interests lie broadly in computer security, focusing on the design of secure decentralized systems and cryptocurrencies. Miller is the Director of the Decentralized Systems Lab at UIUC and an affiliate in Computer Science.

Shaloo Rakheja has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. She specializes in physics-based modeling of nanoelectric and magnetic devices for energy-efficient computing and communication. Rakheja is director of the Center for Advanced Semiconductor Chips with Accelerated Performance (ASAP). She is also affiliated with the Holonyak Micro & Nanotechnology Lab.
