Illinois ECE Research Assistant Professor Aiguo Han was recently elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) for his contributions to medical ultrasound.

Illinois ECE Research Assistant Professor Aiguo Han was recently elected as a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). Established in the early 1950s, AIUM is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 10,000 physicians, students, sonographers, scientists, and healthcare providers. AIUM is dedicated to advancing the safe use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation.
"AIUM is a multidisciplinary professional society that brings together basic scientists and clinicians. As a basic scientist and engineer, I am constantly amazed by the far-reaching clinical impact of ultrasound research, which in large part is due to the successful collaborations between basic scientists and clinicians," said Han. "My involvement in AIUM has inspired me to develop engineering tools - such as ultrasound techniques and artificial intelligence algorithms - that will benefit human health."
According to the AIUM website, The individuals who have achieved AIUM Fellow status have demonstrated a commitment to both the AIUM and to medical ultrasound.
“From physicians to sonographers to scientists, each member of this year’s class embodies the AIUM’s five pillars of leadership, education, research, collaboration, and quality,” said AIUM CEO Glynis Harvey, CAE, in a press release by AIUM.
The 2021 class of AIUM Fellows joins a small and select group of medical ultrasound experts, luminaries, and leaders who have achieved this designation as less than 3% of AIUM members are Fellows.
"I am honored to have been recognized as an AIUM Fellow, and earnestly grateful for the support I have received from my mentors, students, and collaborators in my research journey," added Han. "I plan to stay involved in the society and various committees of biomedical ultrasound and am excited about the promising future of the field."
