This week marks the 50th Annual ECE ILLINOIS Alumni Awards Weekend September 12-14, 2019. It will be a time to honor and celebrate the outstanding work of the 2019 distinguished ECE ILLINOIS Alumni Award recipients.

Recipients of 2019 ECE ILLINOIS Alumni Awards were honored September 12-14, 2019. The 50th annual ECE ILLINOIS Alumni Awards honor and celebrate the outstanding work of distinguished ECE ILLINOIS alumni.
2019 Recipients include the following:
The YOUNG ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD will be presented to David G. Yang (BSEE ’04). Yang is the CEO/Co-Founder of Fullstack Academy in New York, NY. Yang is being honored for his pioneering leadership in the coding bootcamp industry as the founder of Fullstack Academy.
The Young Alumni Achievement award recognizes young alumni (younger than 40 years old) who have made outstanding professional contributions to their fields since graduating from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
A DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD will be presented to Dr. Chi Hou Chan (PhD ’87). Chan is the Chair, Professor of EE and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Terahertz Millimeter Waves at the City University of Hong Kong. Chan is being honored for his significant contributions to fast electromagnetic analysis of scattering, antennas and interconnects, and to engineering higher education in Hong Kong.
A DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD will be presented to Dr. Chang W. Chen (PhD ’92). Chen is the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering and Presidential Chair Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Chen is being honored for his fundamental contributions to image, video, and multimedia analysis and communications.
A DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD will be presented to John H. Hammond (BSEE ’68, MS ’69, PhD ‘73). Hammond is the former Vice President of Technology at Lockheed Martin in Fairfax, VA. Hammond is being honored for his exceptional leadership in the field of high energy lasers, and particularly with respect to military applications.
A DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARD will be presented to Indira Saladi (BSEE ’90). Saladi is an attorney, entrepreneur, Angel Investor, and executive in Chicago, IL. Saladi is being honored for her innovative leadership in intellectual property law and business.
The Distinguished Alumni Award honors Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering alumni who have made professional and technical contributions that bring distinction to themselves, the department, and the university.
The 2018 MARCIA PETERMAN AWARD will be presented to P. Scott Carney (BS Eng Physics ‘94). Carney is the Director of The Institute of Optics and the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. Carney is a former ECE faculty member and former ECE Alumni Board Faculty Coordinator. Carney is being recognized for his outstanding service to the ECE department and its students, faculty, and alumni.
The 2019 MARCIA PETERMAN AWARD will be presented to Dan Mast (BSEE ‘84). Mast is being recognized for his outstanding service to the ECE department and its students, faculty, and alumni.
The Marcia Peterman ECE Award was established by the Electrical and Computer Engineering Alumni Association to honor the memory of Marcia Peterman. The award is presented annually to an alumnus, former faculty, or former staff member for dedicated service to the department.
