Out of about 50 submitted posters, "A dual approach for optimal algorithms in distributed optimization over networks" was selected for one of the three best poster prizes, each accompanied with a $1000 cash prize. The team included Uribe, a PhD student also affiliated with CSL, ECE ILLINOIS alumna Soomin Lee (PhD '13), Illinois Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering Associate Professor Angelia Nedich, who is also an ECE ILLINOIS affiliate, and Alexander Gasnikov from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.
The Midwest Machine Learning Symposium is one of the nation's leading symposiums regarding machine learning and "aims to convene regional machine learning researchers for stimulating discussions and debates, to foster cross-institutional collaboration, and to showcase the collective talent of machine learning researchers at all career stages" according to the website.
