Representatives from the ECE Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) welcomed incoming students at ECE Ignition tonight. It began with a video created by ECE senior Mosab Elagha. Then, ECE Student Advancement Committee (ECESAC), Eta Kappa Nu, IEEE, iRobotics, PULSE, and Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering (WECE) held an informal question and answer panel.
Most freshmen and transfers had two burning questions: how do I join and how much time do you need from me? The answers were mostly universal among the RSOs. Each group maintains a website that includes instructions for getting involved. For most members, the committment is a few hours a week.
The one exception was the honor society. Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) Director of Initiate Affairs, Ryan Grady, put it simply. "We'll find you," he said. More specifically, top ECE students will be contacted by representatives during their sophmore, junior, or senior year based on class rank and academic performance.
After the presentation concluded, RSO reps were stationed in the ECE Building Lobby, eager to meet and advise incoming students. Other student organizations and resources were also in attendance, including:
- Illinois Leadership Center
- PURE
- Illini Solar Car
- Engineering Council
- Open Lab Services
- Engineering Career Services
- SHPE
- Student Space Systems
