Barich, Joseph
2010 Young Alumni Achievement Award
For significant contributions to the University of Illinois, the development of its students, and the field of intellectual property law.
Joseph Barich has been an attorney in practice since 1998 with McAndrews, Held & Malloy, one of Chicago’s largest intellectual property (IP) specialty firms. He has worked with companies in a wide variety of industries and in many technical fields, including wireless and land-based communication systems and networking, computer hardware and software innovations, Internet-based innovations such as software applications and business methods, medical imaging and treatment systems, and a variety of consumer products.
An adjunct professor at the University of Illinois College of Law, Joe teaches patent prosecution. He founded and directs a patent clinic in which law students draft full patent applications for student inventors referred to them by the Technology Entrepreneur Center at the University of Illinois.
In 2008 he established the Barich Excellence in Patent Law Award at the College of Law to honor a law student who demonstrates interest and accomplishments in patent law, especially patent prosecution.
Joe was named a Rising Star on the Illinois Super Lawyers list in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He is a senior member of IEEE.
