Chung, Ho Kyoon

For leadership in the worldwide display industry and the commercialization of plasma and organic LED displays.
Ho Kyoon joined Samsung Electronics Semiconductor business in 1988 and led manufacturing technology for memory products until 1999. In 2000, he moved to Samsung SDI to lead the development of Active Matrix OLED (AMOLED) which was successfully put into production in 2007. He was promoted to Executive Vice President and became the head of Corporate R&D at Samsung SDI in 2006.
In recognition of his pioneering work, Ho Kyoon received a number of awards from national and international organizations.
He received Korea Display Industry Grand Prize Award in 2001 from Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and Korea Display Basic Technology Award in 2002 from Ministry of Science and Technology. He also received Samsung Chairman’s Award in Technical Excellence in 2002 for his achievement of 15.1 inch AMOLED development.
More recently, he received a National Medal of Honor from the government of Korea in April, 2006 for his contribution to the development of Korea science and technology, and a Special Recognition Award from the Society of Information Display, in June, 2006, for his outstanding contributions to the development of AMOLED technology.
He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea.
