Yamashita, Eikichi
2000 Distinguished Alumni Award
In recognition of outstanding contributions to research and teaching in the microwave field, skills as an academic administrator, and leadership in the profession.
After completing his PhD at the U of I and working as a research associate for a year, Eikichi Yamashita went on to an associate professorship at the University of Electro Communications in Tokyo, Japan. He played a pivotal role in reviving the microwave engineering in both academia and industry. He laid the foundation for the Asia Pacific Microwave Conference to be the premier symposium that it is recognized as today, second only to the International Microwave Symposium in terms of participation. In 1996 he became dean of the Graduate and Undergraduate School at the University of Electro Communications. He led a distinguished career as an educator and researcher and retired in 1998.
Yamashita served as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques for seven years. He is an IEEE Life Fellow. He received the Distinguished Service Award form the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society this past summer.
