Mang Chi Chan Memorial Scholarship

Established 2021

Chi Hou Chan

Professor Chi Hou Chan grew up in Hong Kong to a family revering knowledge more than anything in life as the formal education of his late father, Mang Chi Chan, was cut short at 5th grade in WWII. A man of great vision, Mang Chi moved his family from place to place, country to country, for better education opportunities for his children. The Chan family has a strong tie with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Chan received his PhD in 1987 under the tutelage of Professor Raj Mittra. Both his son, Clarence, and younger brother, Chi Kit, received their Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2017 and 1987, respectively.
