The Illini Solar Car team started off with a handful of engineering students in 2014 who worked together to create an operating solar car named Argo. Argo was designed and built from 2014-2017 and in October of 2017, Argo entered its first race, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.

Now in 2021, the Illini Solar Car team incorporates the skills of over 200 members and is ready to unveil its second generation vehicle, Brizo, on March 6th at 2 p.m.

Brizo has been in development for four years and is slated to race at the 2021 American Solar Challenge. Brizo represents a huge technical step forward from Argo in many ways ranging from motor design to aerodynamic efficiency to solar array effectiveness.

The Illini Solar Car has over 60 corporate sponsors (full list at illinisolarcar.com/sponsors). Some of the most significant University-affiliated sponsors include the ECE Department, Grainger College of Engineering through the Engineering Design Council, Student Sustainability Committee, SORF, Gies College of Business, and the CS Department.
