U.S. News and World Report recently released its “2014 Best Graduate Schools” rankings, and Illinois’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department has maintained its position among the top programs in these disciplines.
According to the rankings, MIT and Stanford are tied as the top graduate schools for electrical/electronic/communications engineering. Illinois and the University of California, Berkeley, are tied for third.
MIT, Berkeley, and Carnegie Mellon University claim the top three spots for computer engineering, with Illinois ranking fourth.
The College of Engineering at Illinois has also maintained its ranking from last year, tying for fifth with Georgia Tech and Carnegie Mellon University. MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, and the California Institute of Technology were the top four engineering graduate programs.
The methodology for determining the best engineering programs takes into consideration quality assessment, student selectivity, faculty resources, and research activity. The specialty rankings, such as those for electrical and computer engineering, are based only on peer evaluations made by the department heads of the specialty area.
