The Alpha Chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) was recently named as one of the 24 recipients of the 2016-2017 IEEE-HKN Outstanding Chapter Award. This award is presented to IEEE-HKN chapters in recognition of excellence in their chapter administration and programs.
According to the HKN website, HKN is the international honor society for electrical and computer engineers, first established by Maurice Carr in 1904 with the Alpha chapter at the University of Illinois. Since then, HKN has grown to over 200 chapters and selects its members based on marked academic performance, personal character, service to the student body, and distinguished accomplishments.
In response to winning the award, Alpha Chapter President Corey Snyder and Alpha Chapter Director of Publicity Amanda Wang stated, "This award recognizes all the work we have done over the last year across our academic service, community outreach, and professional engagement. We are grateful for the freedom our department allows us and for the exceptional and thoughtful work of our members."
Recipients of the 2016-2017 IEEE-HKN Outstanding Chapter Award were chosen based on the annual chapter report which showcases the chapter's activities in an individualized manner. In addition, the Outstanding Chapter Award evaluation committee judged chapters on their efforts to improve professional development, raise instructional and institutional standards, encourage scholarship and creativity, provide a public service, and generally further the established goals of IEEE-HKN.
