Nayfeh honored with Presidential Early Career Award

ECE alumnus Osama Nayfeh (BSEE ’02) was named a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).

Nayfeh was recognized for the work he has done for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center –Pacific (SPAWAR), which has received support and funding from the U.S. Department of Defense.

His primary research focus has been on optimizing the computational capabilities of the Navy in areas of cyber security and cyber situational awareness. His designs of quantum memory devices and qubit circuitry have enabled the Navy’s technology to operate at highly efficient and effective levels.

President Obama praised the work that Nayfeh and the 101 other PECASE recipients have done towards advancing innovation and tackling the country’s challenges.

“I congratulate these outstanding scientists and engineers on their impactful work,” President Obama said in a White House press release. “These innovators are working to help keep the United States on the cutting edge, showing that Federal investments in science lead to advancements that expand our knowledge of the world around us and contribute to our economy.”
