Research Statement

My research emphasizes the understanding of the complex electromagnetic phenomena in the Sun-Earth system, and their role in predicting/modeling the space weather and quantifying the particle loss, acceleration and transport mechanisms. The development of theoretical wave-particle interaction models, analysis of data from MMS, Van Allen Probes, Cluster and WIND spacecrafts, and handling of 3D global MHD modeling and kinetic drift physics simulations are the primary focus of my research. I am particularly interested to understand and quantify the effects of heavy ions (He+, O+, N+) on the dynamics of near-Earth environment during different geomagnetic conditions, using electromagnetic ion cyclotron (EMIC) waves observations both as a tool to probe the plasma composition, and also to inform on how the changes in the plasma population alter the regional dynamics.

Research Interests

  • Space Weather Modeling
  • Impact of Heavy ions on magnetospheric dynamics
  • Direct and indirect methods of inferring the heavy ions from wave observations
  • Developing theoretical models for wave-particle interaction
