Phillip Lachman

2020 Marcia Peterman ECE Award

In recognition of outstanding loyalty, commitment, and service to the ECE department and its students, faculty, and alumni.

Phillip Lachman (BSEE '04) is a Sr. Business Development Manager at ClearMotion Inc., a venture capital-backed start-up in Boston, Massachusetts, focused on bringing motion control technology solutions to the automotive industry. He is currently responsible for business development of the company's R&D portfolio, overseeing customer account management and developing strategic partnerships.

Upon graduating from Illinois ECE, Phillip worked as a Staff project engineer for Lockheed Martin Space Systems in Sunnyvale, California, leading several classified projects spanning missile defense, satellite development, and nuclear weapons security for a variety of DoD customers.

Phillip is an active angel investor, having invested in numerous start-ups throughout the US. Phillip currently serves as the treasurer of Walnut Ventures and is a founding venture partner of NextGen Venture Partners.  

Phillip graduated Stanford University with a MSEE in 2007 and received his MBA with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Babson College in 2015. Phillip proudly served on the ECE Alumni Board from 2008-2019. 

When there aren't pandemics going on, he enjoys playing USTA tennis, pursuing philanthropic passions, and traveling with his wife, Julia, and their 18-month old son, Noah.
