ECE Department Head William H Sanders and Engineering at Illinois Associate Dean for Advancement Dale Wright are pleased to welcome Heather Vazquez, ECE ILLINOIS senior director of advancement.

She has been part of the Illinois community for nearly twelve years, most recently serving as the director of development and alumni relations for the School of Labor and Employment Relations (LER). In that role, she assembled both immediate and long-term advancement strategies, funding capital improvements including securing cash and pledges of nearly $1.5 million for the new LER classroom addition. She engaged alumni through regular communications and stewardship.

“ECE ILLINOIS is a leader on campus, both academically and philanthropically,” Vazquez said. “I will miss interacting with the LER alumni, but I am looking forward to building new relationships.”

Working as part of a larger, multi-faceted advancement team also drew Vazquez to the department.

“Heather’s skills are a strong addition to the ECE advancement team,” Wright said. “Working together with Allison Winter, I am confident that she will effectively engage alumni, faculty, and friends.”

“We are in a time of incredible growth,” Sanders said. “Adding Heather to our team allows us to connect with more alumni and friends one-on-one, so we can share the exciting things happening here and find ways to work together to support our students and faculty.”

Vazquez is a newly elected board member of the Champaign Unit 4 School District and former president of the Junior League of Champaign Urbana. She and her husband Lucio, a Spanish teacher, are proud parents of one son.
