In November 2017, BP and Royal Dutch Shell, along with a consortium of energy trading companies, announced development a digital commodities platform based on blockchain technologies. Come learn about blockchain technology and discuss opportunities where blockchain applications could be leveraged to improve efficiency and reduce risk within the energy trading sector.

In his role in the BP Integrated Supply and Trading Division, Charles oversees platforms used for trading, physical operations, and risk management of oil and emission transactions. Prior, Charles served in various technical leadership roles at Bank of America and Morgan Stanley where he directed development of software systems. During his lengthy career at investment banks, he contributed to the development of the ISDA FpML specifications which are used to communicate details of OTC derivative transactions. He also served as the CTO of a hedge fund specializing in high frequency trading. He is an Illinois alumnus, receiving a bachelor’s degree in math and computer science.
