Mark Laufenberg is the president of PowerWorld Corporation, an industry-leading provider of power system analysis and visualization, which he co-founded with ECE Professor Tom Overbye in 1996. Their software allows users to model the impact of changes to the high-voltage power grid, like the addition of a new generator or a fault in a transmission line. Their customers represent 68 different countries and include electric utility providers, government agencies, and transmission developers, among other clients.
“I’ve always had pretty close ties to the university. I still work with Professor Overbye, and a lot of our employees are Illinois students,” Laufenberg said of the Champaign-based company. “We like to continue those ties as much as we can.”
