Faculty Mentoring

All students are assigned an ECE Faculty Mentor upon enrollment. Your faculty mentor can help you find opportunities for part-time work or a professor for a special project of particular interest to you. Your faculty mentor can discuss any aspect of your academic life and goals. Your faculty mentor can also advise on Studying Abroad opportunities, and internships.

If, after you meet with your mentor, you would prefer a different mentor closer to your field of specialization, do not hesitate to request a change. Similarly, do not feel obligated to change mentors just because your area of specialization happens to differ from your mentor's. If you have a good relationship with your current mentor, it may be better not to change. Change of Mentor forms can be obtained from the Office of Student Affairs.

It may not be possible to assign a student to a specific faculty member, but the assignment of a mentor in a given area of specialization can be guaranteed. Ask in the Office of Student Affairs.

Finally, consult other faculty members about any questions you may have. Faculty members enjoy informal contact with students, but it is up to you to take the initiative to seek them out.
